Your Dear Dixie School
From: “Your Dear Dixie School”
To: MY PRIDE & JOY – DIXIE ALUMNI & FAMILIES
I hope it’s OK for me to be a bit presumptuous this year (you know it is my 100th year birthday*) and write my own letter to you. I’ve sat back and let others do the talking and bidding for me for those challenging and wonderful past 100 years. Wouldn’t you agree, I should take a moment and let you know what is in my heart and has been for a long time?
Well, YOU ARE! That is why I am still here – working hard, doing my best, to give, to love, to help each one “to become their best selves” and LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I am so grateful for each of you, your families and friends (such fond memories). You have made me what I am today. Thank you – thank you.
Something Great is Happening Here. I have an opportunity to see my dream come true – TO BECOME A UNIVERSITY. That means I can offer more to everyone – even Masters Degrees! The best part is that the students, if they desire, can stay with me longer and have better offerings. I am so . . . EXCITED! Well . . . enough about me.
This year (2011-2012) a support team: the Administration, the Regents, the State Legislature, and the “100th Year Campaign Committee” have all come together to help me get things in place so I can “become MY BEST SELF.” They will each do their part, but, if I can draw the interest from MY PEOPLE to help dress me up to look like the UNIVERSITY I am to become, then . . . I’ll be there.
I am embarrassed with my need to always be wearing “floods” (I just keep outgrowing everything), but that’s okay with me – I was only worried about each of you getting what you needed from me.
Now, let me tell you what the Plan is (see the brochure):
- To fund three (3) Master Chairs: Accounting, Education, and Communications.
- To do a facelift to the campus, which will provide a wonderful and beautiful setting for all of us, a place where people will want to bring their family and friends, and a place that will enhance the collegiate learning experience.
I was just recently informed about other colleges and universities in the U.S. that are my size and how they are able to be successful with their dreams. The KEY for them is, they get more of their alumni giving back something each year. Of their donors, THREE to FOUR out of every FIVE donors are alumni.
For the past 15 years, ONE out of every FIVE of OUR donors are alumni. So if maybe Y’ALL could just get on my band wagon and remember me in some way each year – I would forever be indebted to you. But, if that’s too hard for you, it’s okay, because your well-being is what really matters to me.
I would sure love to see you again. I miss you. Please stop by or call (435-652-7535).
LOVE, “YOUR DEAR DIXIE SCHOOL”
